Silicone tubes and silicone strips are classified as organosilicon products. They have a main chain structure based on silicon-oxygen (Si-O) bonds, with the bond energy of C-C bonds being 82.6 kcal/mol, while the bond energy of Si-O bonds in organosilicon is 121 kcal/mol. Therefore, organosilicon products have high thermal stability, and the chemical bonds of the molecules do not crack or decompose under high temperatures (or radiation exposure). Silicone rubber products can withstand both high and low temperatures, making them usable over a wide temperature range. Both chemical and physical mechanical properties are less affected by temperature. The main chain of organosilicon products is -Si-O-, making them less susceptible to degradation by ultraviolet light and ozone. Organosilicon exhibits better thermal stability, radiation resistance, and weather resistance compared to other polymer materials. The service life of organosilicon in natural environments can reach several decades. Polysiloxane compounds are known to be one of the inert compounds. They are highly resistant to biological aging, have no rejection reaction with animal bodies, and possess good anticoagulant properties. The main chain of organosilicon is very flexible, and the intermolecular forces are much weaker than those of hydrocarbons, resulting in lower viscosity, weaker surface tension, lower surface energy, and strong film-forming ability compared to hydrocarbons of the same molecular weight. This low surface tension and low surface energy are the main reasons for its diverse applications: hydrophobicity, defoaming, foam stability, anti-adhesion, lubrication, and gloss enhancement. Silicone rubber products have excellent electrical insulation properties, including dielectric loss, voltage resistance, arc resistance, corona resistance, volume resistivity, and surface resistivity, and their electrical performance is minimally affected by temperature and frequency. Therefore, they are stable electrical insulating materials widely used in the electronics and electrical industries. In addition to excellent heat resistance, organosilicon also has outstanding water repellency, which ensures high reliability for electrical equipment used in wet conditions.
