Overview

The characteristics of rubber hoses include physiological inertness, UV resistance, ozone resistance, high and low temperature resistance (-80 to 300 degrees), high transparency, strong resilience, compression resistance without deformation, oil resistance, impact resistance, acid and alkali resistance, wear resistance, flame resistance, voltage resistance, and conductivity. They mainly connect the engine to the air filter, the engine to the cooling system, and the automotive air conditioning system, etc. As a component of the intake system, being close to the engine, they need to be resistant to high temperatures, oil, corrosion, aging, and low temperatures. The materials vary based on processing techniques, such as NBR (nitrile rubber) widely used in vacuum brake hoses (it has good oil resistance and high rubber content, but relatively poor ozone resistance). EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber is used in automotive water hose series, such as radiator hoses and air conditioning hoses. There are also some high-performance materials, such as AEM (acrylate rubber) which is heat resistant, etc. Each type of rubber has its own characteristics, so the choice of material for hoses is particularly important. Generally, high-end cars use relatively better materials, while some microcars and vans use poorer materials; for example, some microcars still use nitrile rubber for fuel hoses, which is not suitable for fuel systems. Chlorinated rubber and fluororubber are more commonly used as alternatives to nitrile rubber.
